Testimonials

What people say about our support groups, events and the Ask Bobby directory.

Being an LGBTQ+ only group it was completely different to anything I had experienced before. There was no need to hold back, to explain, to qualify anything I said. No caveats, no toning down, no worry about shocking or even disgusting anyone, all of which I had felt was the case rightly or wrongly at other times. As LGBTQ+ people we have spent a lifetime doing that, checking ourselves. Being in an LGBTQ+ group with shared experiences, suffering the same grief from losing a partner, a friend, a sibling or any loved one and not having to check myself and what I say, was a revelation for me.

The use and abuse of drugs amongst friends, new people who come to the city quickly get sucked in and often left lonely: I think there is a lot that can be done to make them feel a sense of belonging and to break the stigma that the queer community is toxic and that we are here to bring community and support

It has been helpful to be able to share my grief with others who are going through similar situations. I feel like they have been supportive, and it has also been nice to feel like I can support others in a similar way.

Thank you for just being there, when I didn't know where to turn. It’s a long road ahead but knowing the support is there helps massively. You do such amazing work.

It's nice to be around people that are going through the exact same emotions. Sharing was tough but we all got each other.

Being around people who have been through a similar situation. Also the fact that it is supporting those in the LGBT+ community so we can talk about specific issues.

I found being able to join a group of people in person to discuss my grief and how its impacted my life with others who have experienced similar loss has been helpful for me to feel less alone. The group has allow me to see that this does take time and its not a straight line. It also has helped me see that I will carry this grief with me throughout my life, but it's ok. I will be strong enough.
